About the company/role: Our client is a well-established food manufacturing business based in Wetherill Park, supplying ready-to-eat crumb and biscuit products to major customers.
They are seeking a hands-on Process Improvement Engineer to stabilise and optimise their biscuit manufacturing line. This is a full-time, 6-month onsite contract, focused solely on driving measurable improvements across throughput, quality, waste reduction, GMP compliance and operator capability.
This role has strong leadership backing and the potential to convert to permanent depending on project success.
Duties:- Conduct deep-dive process mapping and loss analysis across the full biscuit line
- Identify bottlenecks, reliability gaps and root causes of waste
- Improve equipment uptime (MTBF/MTTR) in collaboration with Maintenance
- Validate and reset process control parameters (oven profiles, dough, bake time, cooling, milling)
- Implement quick wins to stabilise output and reduce variation
- Reduce scrap, dump stock and customer complaints
- Strengthen GMP, hygiene and ready-to-eat food safety standards
- Improve microbiological performance
- Develop SOPs, start-up/shutdown procedures and troubleshooting guides
- Establish SPC control charts and critical process parameters
- Build operator capability through structured training and coaching
- Develop skills matrices and competency frameworks
- Deliver KPI dashboards and final sustainability handover pack
Skills/experience: - Qualifications in Engineering, Food Science or Manufacturing
- Experience in food manufacturing (bakery or thermal processing highly regarded)
- Strong process control and troubleshooting capability
- Experience improving throughput and reducing defects/waste
- Strong GMP and food safety knowledge (ready-to-eat preferred)
- Hands-on approach
- Demonstrated ability to reduce variation and improve consistency
- HACCP / Food Safety certification
- Lean Manufacturing / Continuous Improvement exposure
You are practical, data-driven, comfortable working across shifts when required, and motivated by delivering measurable operational results, not just reports.
