About the company/role: Our client is an Australian technology company focused on the commercialisation of innovative laser enrichment technologies for applications including Uranium enrichment, Silicon enrichment and medical isotope enrichment. The Mechanical Technician is responsible for mechanical construction, assembly and commissioning of manufacturing equipment while maintaining, documenting and participating in risk analysis and feedback design.
 
Duties:
 
  • Construct and assemble mechanical process equipment, including components supporting laser system construction, in line with engineering designs
  • Assemble and support commissioning of process gas handling systems (GHS) and associated equipment whilst implementing QA/QC processes
  • Perform manual fabrication tasks (drilling, machining, welding) to support equipment and infrastructure construction
  • Contribute to design reviews, technical risk analysis and project planning
  • Support the operation and maintenance of constructed systems to meet project objectives
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organised work environment in the laboratories
 
 
Skills/experience:
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical experience
  • Previous experience in industrial manufacturing
  • Strong communicator/collaborator within a technical team
  • Ability to read and understand 2D drawings and assemblies
  • Familiarity with basic electrical schematics and electrical wiring preferred
  • Attention to detail, with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to research mechanical characteristics required
  • Stainless steel TIG welding highly desired
  • High purity and vacuum systems highly desired
