About the role:
This opportunity is with a government-aligned project supporting the Department of Home Affairs, focused on laboratory testing and evaluation of advanced chemical detection equipment used for national biosecurity and safety. 

The organization operates within the scientific and regulatory testing space, contributing to critical public safety outcomes.
  • Australia-based laboratory environment
  • Project-based contract (May 2026 – October 2026) with potential extension
  • Monday to Friday, standard working hours
  • To commence in May 2026

About your duties:

Reporting to the Project Lead, your responsibilities will include:
  • Design and execute laboratory testing plans for advanced detection equipment
  • Conduct analytical testing of gases, chemicals, and environmental samples
  • Analyse performance data including detection accuracy, calibration, and reliability
  • Prepare clear, structured reports with insights and recommendations
  • Liaise with suppliers and support equipment setup and training
  • Assist in user testing and evaluation of new technologies
  • Maintain laboratory standards, safety, and compliance protocols
  • Manage documentation, data recording, and reporting processes
  • Support ongoing improvements in testing methods and procedures
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver project outcomes

About you:
  • Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Science, or a related field
  • Experience in a laboratory environment (analytical, environmental, or chemical testing)
  • Strong understanding of lab practices, validation, and quality standards
  • Exposure to gas analysis, spectroscopy, or similar techniques (advantageous)
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset
