About the role:
The Laboratory Technician supports the operational activities of the Nuclear Forensics capability area by ensuring efficient and compliant operation, maintenance and use of laboratory facilities, equipment and procedures, and assisting in sample preparation and analysis for nuclear forensic examinations.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Assist with tasks and activities that contribute to the capabilities of the Nuclear Forensic team
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as microscopes, micropipettes and radiation detection equipment
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of laboratory processes
  • Laboratory housekeeping to enable operational readiness of the laboratories
  • Ensuring adequate stock of chemicals and consumables is maintained for users
 
Skills & experience:
  • Certificate IV / Diploma / Tertiary qualifications in Chemistry or related field
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to perform repetitive cleaning tasks to address analytical requirements
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact and communicate with a varied and multidisciplined audience
  • Ability to work independently and/or under minimal supervision
