About the company/role:
Our client is seeking a Laboratory Attendant to assist with a range of routine laboratory activities, including sub-sampling and basic chemistry testing, on a casual full-time basis from the 7th of April until the 30th of May.

Duties:
  • Provide support to the Scientists and other Laboratory Services staff, including the provision of routine information.
  • Perform basic/routine laboratory testing such as pH, conductivity, Alkalinity, and turbidity.
  • Conduct sub-sampling of drinking water, environmental and sewerage samples, including their processing to preserve them correctly for later testing.
  • Filter samples using a syringe filter.
  • Maintain traceability of samples through the use of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Apply established practices and procedures.
  • Conduct data entry of sample and result information into LIMS.
 
Skills/experience:
  • A minimum of Certificate III in Laboratory Skills. If not held, must be obtained within 12 months from date of appointment.
  • Possession of a current “C” Class Driver’s License.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory skills and methodologies, including an understanding of chemical water testing requirements.
  • Ability to use a syringe filter (requires use of hands to apply some pressure and can be a repeated action).
  • An understanding of basic chemistry titrations (pH, conductivity, Alkalinity, turbidity).
  • Basic numeracy, written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to adapt to the use of non-Microsoft computer programs.
  • Ability to understand and follow policies and procedures.
  • The ability to complete tasks in a safe manner, using appropriate PPE and following established risk assessments and procedures.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
