Beamline Scientist About the role: We are currently seeking a Beamline Scientist who displays initiative, drive, and passion for problem solving to join the team on a 13-month maternity leave contract. Reporting to the Beamline Group Manager, in this role you will be supported to develop knowledge of the capabilities, techniques and instrumentation within the MX beamline group to enable the best possible scientific outcomes. You will provide user support for experiments, work collaboratively to commission and maintain new equipment for the MX beamlines, as well as engage in general outreach and research activities within the community. Your main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:Provide scientific and technical support, advice and training to national and international synchrotron beamline users of the Macromolecular Crystallography (MX1) and Microfocus Crystallography (MX2) beamlinesDevelop knowledge of industry best practice and technology to contribute to development of the synchrotron beamline and associated facilitiesWork collaboratively and share scientific expertise to positively contribute to the science and research culture within the companyLiaise with both internal and external stakeholders to develop a thriving synchrotron research communityPromote and develop outreach activities within the MX Beamline Group, including participating in professional forums relevant to your research interestsEnsure appropriate policy, procedures, and guidelines are adhered to associated with the beamline and facility in particular in relation to WHS, radiation safety and equipmentUndertake specific beamline responsibilities as assigned by the Beamline Group ManagerTo be successful in this position you will have: A PhD in Chemistry, Biological Science, Materials Science or a related disciplineExperience in protein or chemical crystallography, including the ability to process, analyse and interpret the obtained dataAbility to troubleshoot problems on complex systems or instrumentsExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsDemonstrated contribution to a successful and diverse teamAbility to undertake self-directed learningDemonstrated research contribution to scientific publicationsDemonstrated ability to follow policy, procedures and guidelines Applications close on Monday 3rd March 2025.
