Multiple positions available, including day and afternoon shifts starting between 6am-11am with 8hrs shifts.About the role This role will involve routine soil preparation to support the testing department. About the company:Our client, a State Government organisation, are seeking multiple TO2 Fisheries Technicians to liaise with commercial fisherman for the collection of catch data from fishing gear trials. This is a casual ongoing position until the 31st of January 2028.Please note that hours will fluctuate throughout the year. During peak periods (March-Nov with June/July/Aug being the busiest) you can expect to work up to full-time hours, and a couple of days per month during off-season. Location(s) of roles:  Cairns, Townsville, Gladstone, Mackay and Rockhampton  The successful candidate/s will perform the following duties:Prepare and participate in field work at short notice and for extended periods that may involve working in difficult conditions (e.g. remote areas, at sea, torrential rain).Assist with the processing of biological samples and fisheries data.Assist with the collection, entry and management of data into appropriate software, including quality assurance processes.Think through operational procedures, identify problems and suggest pragmatic solutions particularly during fieldwork.Work effectively and collaboratively within a team of scientists and technical staff.Have a role in ensuring health and safety obligations for boat, field and laboratory work. Essential requirements for this role:A current “C” class drivers’ license.Experience in field data collection, preferably in marine environment.Ability to continue to work at sea under rough sea conditions and for extended periods. Highly desirable to this role are:Minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor degree in Applied Science, Aquaculture, Fisheries Science or equivalent.A coxswain’s certificate.First Aid certificateApply!If you think this could be the role for you then please apply now!
