About the role: We are currently seeking a Beamline Scientist – SAXS/WAXS who displays initiative, drive, and passion for problem solving to join the team on a fixed term 2-year contract. Reporting to the Beamline Group Manager, this role will be responsible for delivering outcomes for the operation, maintenance & development of the scattering beamlines (SAXS/WAXS and BioSAXS), as well as research, industry engagement and outreach activities within the science community. Your main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:Provide scientific and technical support, advice and training to national and international synchrotron beamline users of the scattering beamlines (SAXS/WAXS and BioSAXS).Reduce and correct user data and provide advice or further data processing and interpretation.Develop knowledge of industry best practice and technological developments to contribute to improvement of the synchrotron beamline and associated facilitiesLiaise with both internal and external stakeholdersPromotion and development of outreach activities within the Beamline GroupEnsure appropriate policy, procedures, and guidelines are adhered to associated with the beamline and facility in particular in relation to WHS, radiation safety and plant/equipmentWork collaboratively to share scientific expertise to contribute to the research culture within the companyUndertake specific beamline responsibilities as assigned by the Beamline Group Manager To be successful in this position you will have: A PhD in physics, materials science, engineering, chemistry, or related fields with some post-doctoral experiencePost-doctoral (or similar) experience in execution and research applications using SAXS/WAXS and/or SANS, including the ability to process, analyse and interpret the obtained data, is essential.Experience in planning and executing experiments at large research facilities (synchrotron or neutron).Working knowledge of X-ray scattering instrumentation (laboratory or large facility), sample environment and instrumentation design;Experience as a beamline/instrument scientist undertaking experiments, supporting users, and providing data analysis in X-ray and/or neutron scattering;Knowledge and experience in scientific software programming (e.g. Python);Ability to troubleshoot problems on complex systems;Demonstrated sound contribution to a solid track record of publications;Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;Ability to work independently;Demonstrated ability to follow policy, procedures and guidelines.
